Abstract:

This study aims to identify the role of Iraqi satellite television channels in promoting a culture of confronting violence and extremism, particularly as issues of violence and extremism constitute significant topics that require thorough academic examination. The study is grounded in a central research question: “What is the role of Iraqi satellite television channels in promoting a culture of confronting violence and extremism? This research is descriptive in nature and adopts the survey methodology. A questionnaire was utilized as the primary tool for data and information collection. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling method, with a total sample size of 400 respondents from the Iraqi public, comprising both males and females from the Karkh and Rusafa districts. The study reached several key findings, most notably: The results indicate that the majority of respondents prefer to follow satellite television programs addressing issues and forms of violence and extremism worldwide, due to their significance to the security and stability of the country and its people. Issues related to corruption within state institutions, political topics, global issues of violence and extremism, and security-related matters ranked, respectively, among the subjects that attracted the respondents’ greatest interest and preference for follow-up through satellite television programs, given the importance of these issues to the public.
